Correction…

I apologize – Dylan Welch also reads my blog. He just has a hard time commenting. I believe that my dad also secretly reads my blog regularly but does not comment – just like on facebook!

Last Assignment

My mom and I finished our photography class yesterday.  It was a good class and I learned a lot about my camera and taking good photos, but we were both ready for it to be finished I think.  The best part about the class was seeing everyone’s photos and talking about what they did.  They were very different ideas and some really great photos.   It was fun to get out and use my camera and actually be aware of the features it has.  Now I just need to keep using it and practicing.

Here are this week’s photos:

Assignment 7: selective focus

This one is great because Biscuit NEVER looks at the camera.  I think I am gonna have to frame this one.

Assignment 8: Nighttime shot of a street scene.

I went to go take pictures of the tower but was afraid there would be like 10 other tower photos like the week before with the capitol.  So I started taking photos of this stained glass window and they turned out pretty good.

Thanks for this week’s helper Nicole!  She spent her Friday night riding around town with me so I could have company while taking photos.

Next stop – I need photoshop lessons – anyone?!

Third Assignment

This week was tough for me.  The framing photo was easy, the leading lines photo was not so much easy for me. Now of course I think of all these things I could have done that would have been better, but oh well. Maybe I am not as creative as I need to be – practice makes perfect I guess.

Assignment 5 – Use the technique of leading lines:

Assignment 6 – Use the technique of framing:

Second Assignment

Here are the photos from this week’s assignment:

Third assignment: Person, medium close up position against a background like a street scene.  Use a telephoto setting – make the person’s head about a third of the frame

 03-jblair

Forth assignment: take the same photo using a wide angle lens, leave your settings the same and the head should still be about a third of the frame.

I love this city!  I love that you can go to the dog park and see some of the best skyline views in town.  Note all the construction – lots of high rise condos going up – I still don’t know who is going to be living in all these condos.

Thanks Casey, one of my best models, for giving up your Sunday evening to run around the park with me and of course Biscuit (not pictured) for coming too.

First Assignment

Here are the selections for my first photography assignment.

Assignment 1 was a well composed photo of a person with a soft background and a minimum depth of field.  The winner is:

 01-jblair

Best part about this one is that you can see Josh in the background

Assignment 2 was a photo of a subject in motion that visually demonstrates that motion.  Winner is:

 02-jblair

Please note the look on Josh’s face.

It just so happened that my first assignment coincided with a visit from my 2 most loyal readers.  Thanks for letting me take 5 million photos!

Picture pages, picture pages

Ok not pages but just pictures. One of my favorite things is photography. I love to take pictures! For my 30th birthday some of my wonderful family members all pitched in a got me a really, really awesome camera. It is a Cannon Digital SLR with manual controls. I have had it all this time and have not used it much because I don’t really know how it works. Well after tonight I hope that won’t be the case!

My mom and I are signed up to take a UT informal class on the beginnings of digital photography. We will meet once a week for 6 weeks and hopefully become expert photographers. Ok so maybe not after these 6 weeks, but we should have a better idea on what to do. I am really excited to get out there and take some awesome photos! Be ready to look at them!

Father’s Day

My dad would probably consider himself a bit of a foodie.  He loves a good meal and has taught us all to enjoy fine dinning.  A few years ago we started a bit of a tradition where we kids will make a nice gourmet meal for dad at home.  So he has the meal of a fine dinning restaurant (ok maybe not that good – but good) in the luxury of his own home.  Meaning he is in the pool until 5 min before we eat.

My sister inherited my dad’s cooking gene and was our lead chef until she decided to move to Chicago.  Last year Natalie took the reins but we had Brian to help with the grill.  Now that Brian is a dad it was pretty much up to Natalie and I to do most of the work – my moms helps too.

We did pretty well I think.  We had steak, twice baked potatoes, a grilled squash zucchini medley and best of all chocolate cake! It was a pretty yummy meal.

Here is a photo of my dad making the most of this father’s day – sleeping in the recliner with golf on – what better way to spend the day?

Happy father’s day daddy!

New Light

I decided yesterday that it seems I pretty much write this blog just for Josh and Chris. They seem to enjoy it so I guess I can’t quit it.

TV on DVD…

Is my new favorite thing! I got Nexfilx so that I could watch Season 1 of Mad Men (best show on TV!!!! Please watch it – you will love it – I promise.) this summer before the next season came out. Now I am wondering how I got by without Netflix before! I think I had put way too much emphasis on the DVR – please do not take this the wrong way I still love my DVR very much. I would record stuff that I planned to watch one day if I was sitting around with nothing to do. Now I have all of these shows that are just sitting there and maybe will never be watched because I have discovered Netflix. I am now watching the Tudors Season 1 and am a little obsessed. I have been really into the Henry VIII saga for a while now. I am not sure why – but it is very interesting to me. So here is what is on my list. What should I add?

Entourage
Big Love
Dexter
Freaks and Geeks

Netflix has amazing turn around by the way! I kind of love them right now.

New Addition

No not the band – although they are highly entertaining – I have added a new feature to the BooBlog. Josh has requested that I get a tumblr account – since him and Chris have them. Apparently I will do whatever Josh tells me – except shop at Wal-Mart – so there you have it. Here is the link http://thebooblog.tumblr.com/ it is now on the home page so you can check it out when you check out the BooBlog. What better way to start it than a photo of the B.

You will find random photos that I will take with my phone and if I am trying to be just like Josh and Chris these photos will contain a lot of food and dogs – oh and bowling.

Enjoy!
