I heard an interview with the rapper Flo rida the other day on the radio and it was actually very interesting. He grew up in the projects in one of the toughest neighborhoods in Miami, Florida (imagine that!) Well since he has made it big he does a lot for the community he grew up in. He gives a LOT of money back – he has a Thanksgiving program where he gives away hundreds of turkeys to the poor. He really makes a lot of effort to help the people that are in the very poor community he grew up in.
Now I bet you are wondering why I am telling you this. This really gives me a very different view of him as a person. This new information allows people like me (and you – don’t lie) to feel less guilty for enjoying songs like Low, Sugar and the new one that I don’t know the name of but when I hear it on the radio I never change the channel but feel like a freak for enjoying it. You know the “you spin me right round baby” song…. Now I will not have to feel guilty anymore knowing that even though his music is cheesy he is trying to make a difference. I am just happy that there are rappers that are out there trying to do some good – no matter how awesome or unawesome their music.
So I am in full support of Flo rida and singing – BOOTS WITH THE FUR. Go out and buy some Flo rida music.
Don’t let me regret this blog Flo rida.
Yeah that’s right – I just wrote a blog about Flo rida, and?!
Allow me challenge your view of another charitable giver…
This giver awarded over $8 million in student scholarships across the US, donated $5 million to help Red Cross Chapters prepare for disasters, teamed up with United Way and One Economy to provide free tax preparation and filing services, provided $5.7 million to support the creation of “green” jobs in the US, gave $175,000 to United Way of Kentucky… and this is just 2009.
This giver goes by the name Walmart. I wonder if the Flo Rida effect will work here?
no because percentage wise – that is a very very small amount for Wlamart – the bastards!
I didn’t realize there was a profit-to-giving ratio. So what percentage did Mr. Rida give, roughly?
Josh I am not trying to say you HAVE to like Flo Rida – just that it is ok if you did. I am still no fan of Wal-Mart because they gave money. It is their civic duty as a large corporation to give money. If they did not they would be even bigger jerk faces. That is just one person’s opinion though – you can like them if you want.
Why does Walmart have a civic duty and Flo Rida doesn’t?
he does – everyone does – but do they all live by it – no. again – not trying to FORCE you to like Flo Rida as you seem to be doing with Wal-Mart
I know you aren’t forcing me to like Flo Rida. I already like Flo Rida- never said I didn’t. I am just trying to understand your post. At one point you felt guilty about listening to his music, but after you found out he gave to charities, you no longer feel guilty and you recommend others should buy his music.
Why did you feel guilty?
because it is SUPER cheesy!!!!!! Ugh! it was supposed to be funny Josh – thanks for blowing that out of the water.
Jackie, I take your blog posts very seriously. If you have an idea you feel you need to express, it is my civic duty- as your reader, to make sure I understand what you are saying. I don’t know where you get this idea that I am silly and carefree about my comments.
p.s. did you see my roller video to “it’s raining men”?
Oh I am very serious about the post – and glad that you take it serious too – but it is suppsoed to be funny – but serious too.
what no?! where?!
